On the afternoon of April 6th, the unveiling ceremony of “Liuzhu Shu Yuan” was held in the International Students’ Apartment of Jiangning Campus. “Liuzhu Shu Yuan” aims to promote the high-quality, high-efficiency and internal-driving development of education for international students in our school, strengthen the national conditions education for them and develop more international medical talents that understand China, befriend China and love China. The University Party Secretary Lan Qing, Vice President Shen Ruilin and Member of University Standing Committee/Head of Publicity Department Wang Chunhui attended the event. More than 60 people of deans & directors of relevant functional departments and representatives of international students attended the activity. Chen Yun, dean of the School of International Education, presided over the unveiling ceremony.
NMU Party Secretary Lan Qing and Vice President Shen Ruilin jointly unveiled the “Liuzhu Shu Yuan” and inspected the construction process of it. Jiang Hailan, vice dean of the School of International Education, reported the preparatory work of the residential college. She said that “Liuzhu Shu Yuan” would be used as the carrier to promote the integration of cultural education and professional education for international students, to fully break the barrier between the classroom education and supplementary education, to promote the study of Chinese and Chinese culture for international students, and to build it into the main front of spreading Chinese culture for international students in our school.
Nisha, an undergraduate student from Malaysia, spoke as the representative of international students in the university. She expressed her appreciation to the university for creating favorable conditions for international students to grow up and become talented, so that they can immerse themselves in learning Chinese and experiencing Chinese culture, and perceive a true, multi-dimensional and beautiful China. She said that she will adhere to the school motto of “pursue excellent with erudition, reach perfection with morality”, and strive to be a high-quality international medical talent with professional medical knowledge and skills as well as a passion for Chinese history and culture.
NMU Party Secretary Lan Qing congratulated the establishment of “Liuzhu Shu Yuan”, acknowledging the active exploration and practice of the School of International Education in cultivating talents for international students. He also put forward requirements for the future work of the residential college: to further improve ideological awareness and enhance the effectiveness of the dissemination of Chinese culture during the education for international students, to actively innovate work mechanisms and comprehensively improve the quality of education and to focus on forging distinctive brand activities to enhance the influence of “Liuzhu Shu Yuan”. Party Secretary Lan Qing hoped that “Liuzhu Shu Yuan” could function as a window for the internationalization of the university and as an excellent practice base for the development of the Double World-class Project, telling China’s stories well, making the voice of China heard, and contributing to promoting exchanges between Chinese and international youth and training high-quality international talents.
After the unveiling ceremony, the 2023 Chinese Traditional Culture Experience Activity for International Students with the theme of “Encountering Chinoiserie” was held at “Liuzhu Shu Yuan”. Under the guidance of professional teachers, international students practice calligraphy, savor tea, and draw on oil-paper umbrellas to experience the beauty of the traditional Chinese culture.
